The Gudbandsdalen area consists of a main valley, with the smaller valleys of Gausdal, Espedalen, Vinstradalen, Heidal and Ottadalen.

Gudbrandsdalen has a wealth of flora and fauna and a diverse natural environment, with large areas of forests, mountains, watercourses and cultivated land. The national parks Ormtjernskampen, Dovrefjell, Rondane and Jotunheimen are established to preserve the nature and fauna for the coming generations. You are free to visit the national parks to experience the grate nature.

Lake Mjösa is the largest lake of Norway and has a surface on, 336 square km. The maximum depth of Mjösa is 443 meters. The river Gudbrandsdalslågen starts in Lesjaskogsvatnet in north and runs to the lake Mjösa (135 km long). 

Lillehammer is a modern town with medieval skiing roots
Lillehammer was granted its town charter as recently as 1827.  Nonetheless, its coat of arms bears witness to a stirring medieval deed that changed the course of Norwegian history.  Lillehammers heraldic bearing, a Viking on skis, is the only coat of arms in the world to feature a skier.
